NOTE: You can ignore this section if you got ValueFax bundled with your modem or you registered with an internet based shareware distribution company or with a FaxScanner. You do not have to register ValueFax. This section is relevant only for users of the shareware version.
We are hoping that you will be pleased with the functionality and value provided by ValueFax. It is important to register the product if you want to continue to use it. This helps us continue to invest in the program and to enhance it with features that users want.
To register, open the "ValueFax Registration" program in the "ValueFax 2.0.14" Folder which is on your main disk. Fill in the registration information and print the form to your printer. Please include your email information on the form if you have any email account (Internet, CompuServe, MCI mail, America Online, Prodigy, eWorld or any other network connected to the Internet) since that is the best method for sending you the registration key as well as any other information. Please do NOT fax us the registration form since we will not be able to issue a registration number without the payment of the fee. The printed form is automatically saved in the "Registration Form" file in the "ValueFax Fax folder" inside the system folder for future reference. Please feel free to write any suggestions you have for the future on the registration form. Then mail the registration form with the fee to the address on the form. Once this form is printed, do not change anything in the registration dialog and do not remove/reinstall ValueFax since doing so will make your registration key invalid. When you get the registration key from us, rerun the registration program and click on the "Register" button. Then type in the key when asked and you should be done. The program will say "Thank You" when the proper key is entered.
The hex digits at the bottom of the form encode your unique, personal registration number. So we need these digits intact to calculate your the same. There is no other secret information encoded in the hex digits. If you are working in security agencies and want to absolutely make sure no information is going out, please write to us so we can issue you your registration number in another manner.
Once successfully registered, you should make a backup copy of the entire "ValueFax Fax Folder" on a diskette for use if you have major catastrophies like a disk crash. In the event of a disk crash, you should reinstall ValueFax and then copy all the files from the backup "ValueFax Fax Folder" into the "ValueFax Fax Folder" folder inside your system folder to avoid having to reregister.
NOTE: If you are registering in June or July 1997, please register using your credit card. Due to vacations, paper registration forms may be processed slowly during these months. However, we will continue to promptly process credit card registrations that come in via email. The registration number will also be returned via email.
10.1 No printer? No problem!
If you do not have a printer, you can first create the text file "Registration Form" by clicking on the "Print Form" button in the "ValueFax Registration" dialog. This file is automatically created when you click on "Print Form" or "Make Email" even when you cancel the next dialog. So if you have a LaserWriter driver, Print Preview printer driver, or the Print2Pict printer driver you can Print to that. You can also print to the ValueFax Fax driver by clicking on Print while holding down the option key. You can then just click on "Cancel" in the next dialog. Any of these methods can be used to create the text file "Registration Form" in the "ValueFax fax folder" inside the system folder. You can then copy and take this file to another machine which has a printer. Or, you can email this file to valuefax@ix.netcom.com and send the payment separately (to avoid confusion, tell us that you are doing this).
10.2 Registration Fee
Feel free to give the initial copy you downloaded to others to try but please do not share your registered copy.
Registration fee is US $23 for individuals, US $28 for businesses. Site license fee is $5 per Macintosh ($110 minimum). That means, businesses with between 4 and 20 Macintoshes should send in US $110. Businesses with 100 Macintoshes should send in US $500 and so on. Over 100 Macs, write to us. A Site license covers all Macintoshes at one street address. These include Powerbooks and Duos normally used at that address. Each person has to run the registration program, even for a site license. Users paying with cash, cheques, cashiers cheques, traveller's cheque and money orders get a cash discount, so the individual cash registration is $20, business is $25 and site license is $100. Credit card users pay the full fee.
If you send a cheque, allow 3 to 4 weeks to receive your registration number. Also, we cannot register your product unless you send a cheque on a US bank. Please do not send a Eurocheck - our bank charges us $25 fee if we were to deposit it. If you send cash, cashiers cheque, traveller's cheque or money order, your registration number will be mailed within 3 days. Depending on the load, we might even email or fax the registration number to your fax number.
As of release 2.0.8, we are setup to accept credit card payments. Credit card users do not get the cash discount, so the individual credit card registration is $23, business is $28 and site license is $110. The registration dialog now has a button to enter your credit card information. Currently, only Visa and MasterCard are accepted but we will be accepting other cards in the future. Your credit card number will be encrypted on the registration form for your protection. If you have access to email, you should just email the contents of the text file "Registration Form" to us at valuefax@ix.netcom.com
We know that it is very inconvenient for foreign users to get US$ so we have accepted 40 DM, 15 British Pounds and 2500 Yen all in cash in place of US$20 from people who could not get US$ cash. However, please DO NOT send cheques in foreign currency.
